Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) SSL Certificate Requirements


If you choose to use your own personal device on the Suffield Public Schools WiFi Network, you will need to download and install an SSL certificate through your web browser to authenticate with our network. Please see the appropriate section below for instructions to install this certificate.

Internet Explorer

  • Click here and then click the "Download Certificate" button at the bottom of the page.
  • After the download, Open the file in Internet Explorer.
  • It will open the Certificate Information, select Install Certificate.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the option Place all certificates in the following store.
  • Click Browse.
  • Select the folder Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK.
  • Click Next and then Finish.
  • Click Yes on the security warning.
  • Close all dialogs and restart the browser.

Google Chrome

  • Click here and then click the "Download Certificate" button at the bottom of the page.
  • In the browser customize menu, select Settings, click on Show advanced settings... link at the bottom, and click the Manage certificates... button under HTTPS/SSL section.
  • Click the Import... button.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Browse and select the certificate file you've downloaded from step 1.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the option Place all certificates in the following store.
  • Click Browse.
  • Select the folder Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK.
  • Click Next and then Finish.
  • Click Yes on the security warning.
  • Close all dialogs and restart the browser.

Mac OS X (10.7 or higher)

  • Click here and then click the "Download Certificate" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Keychain Access will open. The Add Certificates window will appear. Under the Keychain drop down menu, select System.
  • Enter your local user password.
  • In the Keychain Access Window, under Keychains, select System.
  • Double click on the certificate.
  • The certificate window appears. Under Trust > When using this certificate, select Always Trust. This will change all other options to Always Trust.
  • Close the certificate window and enter your local user password.
  • The certificate will now show a blue plus sign next to it which verifies it is trusted.
  • Close Keychain Access and restart Chrome.

iPhone/ iPad

  • Click here and then click the "Download Certificate" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Download the Certificate.
  • Select Allow if you get a popup.
  • Select Install.
  • Click Done.
