School Counseling

     The Grade 9 counseling curriculum is designed to support students as they transition into high school and begin building the foundation for future academic, career, and personal success. Students explore the question, “How do I transition and find my place?” through lessons and activities focused on high school adjustment, academic planning, and career exploration.

Throughout the year, students learn essential skills such as credit tracking, four-year planning, career exploration, and Naviance navigation. Counseling lessons help students understand graduation requirements, begin identifying interests and strengths, and develop a plan for their high school experience. By the end of 9th grade, students will have a stronger sense of belonging, increased confidence in navigating high school expectations, and the foundational academic and career readiness skills needed for future success.

     The Grade 10 counseling curriculum is centered on helping students deepen their self-awareness and explore how their interests, strengths, and skills connect to future opportunities. Students reflect on the question, “Who am I and what are my interests?” as they engage in activities focused on self-discovery, career exploration, and meaningful engagement in their academic and personal growth.

Throughout the year, students participate in lessons that support strength identification, career cluster exploration, resume writing, and the development of a professional identity. Counseling experiences encourage students to make connections between their abilities, interests, and potential career pathways while continuing to build confidence and independence. By the end of 10th grade, students will have a clearer understanding of their strengths, stronger career awareness, and an increased ability to make informed decisions about their future academic and career goals.

     The Grade 11 counseling curriculum focuses on helping students prepare for life after high school by exploring post-secondary options and creating individualized plans for the future. Students consider the question, “What are my options and how do I prepare?” as they engage in activities centered on post-secondary readiness, pathway planning, and informed decision-making.

Throughout the year, students participate in lessons and planning experiences that support post-secondary research, individualized planning, peer learning, and future goal setting. Counselors work with students to explore college, career, military, and other post-secondary pathways while helping them understand admission requirements, timelines, and opportunities that align with their interests and goals. Students also benefit from mentorship opportunities, one-on-one planning meetings, and conversations that encourage reflection and future readiness. By the end of 11th grade, students will have developed a clearer post-secondary plan, increased confidence in their decision-making, and the tools needed to successfully transition into their senior year and beyond.

     The Grade 12 counseling curriculum is focused on helping students successfully execute their post-secondary plans and transition confidently into their next chapter. Students reflect on the question, “How do I launch into my next chapter?” as they engage in activities centered on application completion, financial aid planning, and transition readiness.

Throughout the year, students receive support with the college application process, scholarship research, financial aid literacy, and finalizing post-secondary plans. Counseling lessons and meetings guide students through important milestones such as completing applications, requesting recommendations and transcripts, understanding FAFSA and scholarship opportunities, and preparing for the transition beyond high school. Students are encouraged to develop independence, advocate for themselves, and build the skills necessary for success after graduation. By the end of 12th grade, students will have completed individualized next-step plans and developed the confidence and readiness needed to successfully transition into college, career training, military service, or the workforce.
