Business Curriculum

The first semester of Accounting presents the principles of double-entry accounting.  Students learn the skill of preparing and interpreting accounting records for a service business organized as a proprietorship.  The accounting cycle and preparation of financial records are completed. 

Accounting I Part A (A)

Students enrolled in Accounting for Honors credit will be responsible for additional assignments throughout the semester. Students enrolled in the Honors Accounting course will be required to complete additional formative and more in-depth summative assessments that focus on applying a deeper understanding of the concepts and transactions that are covered throughout the course.  

Accounting I Part A (H)

Prerequisite: Accounting I  
  
Accounting II continues to develop knowledge and skills of journalizing and posting business transactions.  A complete accounting cycle is covered for a merchandising business organized as a partnership.  Computer applications are provided to give the student experience in an automated environment. 

Accounting II Part B (A)

Students enrolled in Accounting for Honors credit will be responsible for additional assignments throughout the semester.  Students enrolled in the Honors Accounting course will be required to complete additional formative and more in-depth summative assessments that focus on applying a deeper understanding of the concepts and transactions covered throughout the course. 

Accounting II Part B (H)

This one-semester course introduces students to the American legal system, civil law, and the rights and responsibilities governing people and their personal and business activities.  Students have the opportunity to identify legal issues, weigh facts, and formulate decisions through problem-solving activities.

Business and Personal Law

This course is for students going into their senior year who want to commit to the publication of the high school yearbook.  This course will focus on desktop publishing techniques needed to prepare documents such as newsletters, brochures, stationery, business cards, flyers, catalogs, magazines, and yearbooks.  Once students have a thorough understanding of desktop publishing, they can begin planning and designing the high school yearbook.  During the yearbook process, students will learn additional yearbook applications designed specifically by the publishing company that produces our yearbook.

Desktop Publishing/Yearbook

AP Economics is an introductory college-level Macroeconomics & Microeconomics course. The course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination, and also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. Students cultivate their understanding of the principles that apply to the functions of individual economic decision-makers by using principles and models to describe economic situations and predict and explain outcomes with graphs, charts, and data as they explore concepts like scarcity and markets; costs, benefits, and marginal analysis; production choices and behavior; and market inefficiency and public policy. Students will have the opportunity to take the AP Micro and AP Macro exam.

AP Economics

This course is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in marketing, advertising, and/or public relations. The course will focus on the basic concepts and fundamentals of marketing. Students will learn to make realistic management decisions as they apply what they have learned in the classroom to realistic business simulations and other activities. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and workplace safety, technology, and employment literacy connected to core academic standards.

This course provides students with essential, real-world skills in managing money, making informed financial decisions, and building a secure future. The content emphasizes interactive, engaging activities and projects, ensuring relevance and application for today's students.
