Mathematics

The Grade 2 math curriculum deepens students’ understanding of numbers, operations, and measurement through problem solving, exploration, and hands-on activities. Throughout the year, students grow as mathematical thinkers who use reasoning, communication, and creativity to explore patterns, make predictions, and solve increasingly complex problems.

English Language Arts

The Grade 2 ELA curriculum bridges foundational literacy skills with deep thematic knowledge. The curriculum is divided into two primary strands: Knowledge, which builds world history and science background, and Skills, which focuses on advanced decoding, grammar, and the writing process.  In the twelve distinct Knowledge domains, students explore a wide range of social studies and science topics to build a robust vocabulary and global perspective. The Skills strand ensures students move from learning to read to reading to learn.

The Grade 2 Unified Arts curriculum provides a rich and exciting introduction to the arts where students begin to learn basic concepts while expanding their creative identities. This multidisciplinary program is designed to cultivate 21st-century learners through a purposeful, play-based STEM environment and a music curriculum that focuses on fundamental skills like steady beat and vocal proficiency. In Physical Education and Health, students discover the joy of movement, teamwork, and healthy habits. Weekly Library visits reinforce the fundamentals of book sharing while fostering a lifelong love of reading.
