Winter Concert Notice - PDF | News From the World Language Department! | | This year, we celebrated National French week (November, 4-10th 2015) by going to France. Alright, we didn’t quite make it to Paris, but we pretended to go to France, and we had so much fun! All 8th graders taking French created 3D models of French towns that were put on display in the media center. The entire 8th grade class was able to come and visit the media center to admire the French students’ creations, read their essays about life in France and to hear explanations that could be accessed with QR codes. Students were treated to crepes and croissants and other yummy French treats that were generously provided by Anne Kelly. Every 3D model was original, well thought out and very informative. After a fierce competition and a lot of laughter, students voted for their favorite town and chose Bonbonville, the “sweet” model created by Lucie Kieffer, Solveig Linderland, Olivia Mastarlez, and Gabriella Tosone. 
Meanwhile, 6th and 7th graders enrolled in French created beautiful posters that demonstrated their curiosity, enthusiasm and knowledge of all things French! The E-wing currently features a National French Week celebratory wall that has been admired by all who walk past! Bon travail et vive la France!! | Ski Club | |

4) Permission slip for alternate ride home from Berkshire East | Cross Country | | The Suffield Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams both did an excellent job at States this year. The boys took 4th place overall in the state of Connecticut, while the girls took third. Nick Sinofsky took first place in the entire state for boys, with Jared Sharp right behind him in fourth place. Charles Brydges also received a medal for finishing in the top fifty boys in the state. Karissa Stanio, Emily Bridges, Ella Miller, Emma Keane, Eiren Klecziweski, and Gabriella Tosone all received medals for being top-fifty finishers out of all the girls in the state. All runners turned in impressive performances and many earned personal best times, in both the A and B races. Coach Dobi, Coach Marker, Coach Senger, and Coach Killam could not be more proud of the effort their runners put in all season, and the results they earned at states! Go Suffield! Eighth grader Nick Sinofsky, finished as the overall number 1 runner with a time of 12:22.7. 
| | | 6th Grade | | | It has been an incredible close to the 2015 portion of the school year, down in 6th grade. After getting through the initial twists and turn of starting a year off in a new school, our 6th graders have really come into their own this winter season. To celebrate the end of the first quarter, the white and blue team came together to recognize a number of students for their exemplary effort, and displays of citizenship. Winners of the Outstanding Effort Award include Emma Ziemba, Grace Karengikis, Neena Chawla, Tyler Mline, Jason Russon, Wyatt Cashman., Jack Lynam, Amelia Rutt, Carmac Sullivan, Brennan Yourous, Mahika Malhotra, Mackenna Cooke, and Gabriella Nunez. Winners of the Outstanding Effort Award include Paige Remington, Connor Bly, Nadia Dionne, Nathan Fabrizi, Connor Boudreau, Ella Miller, Connor Shaw, Riley Sangiovanni, Kooper Ashmore, Daviely Salceda, and Sarah Kent. In math, they both developed their computation and dance skills, using the Cha-Cha slide to learn about the division of decimals. In ELA, they have been preparing to amaze in the development of their Wax Museum projects. Students will be researching and presenting on courageous characters in history. The Wax Museum will be held January 7th and 8th during period 1 and 2. In Science, students will be exploring the chemical building blocks of our world. They will be describing matter, measuring matter, and understanding the changes in mater. In addition, our 6th grade scientists will be studying atoms and the Periodic Table. In Social Studies, students presented cultural research projects. Moving forward, students will be completing timelines for their Wax Museum projects and studying US Government with an emphasis on the electoral process. | | 7th Grade | | | 7th grade ELA is working on multimedia group presentations about courage in middle school related to themes like peer pressure, self esteem, bullying, friendship, responsibility, and respect. These will be presented to the 6th graders next week. Science is working on body systems like the digestive system, cardiovascular system, and the respiratory system. World Cultures is working on their modern China research projects, where students chose a modern societal issue and developed their own research question to investigate. Math has been working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers. | | 8th Grade | | | The 8th Grade just finished our food drive; we sponsored three families in need for the holiday season. The 8th Grade enjoyed an exciting first quarter! English Language Arts finished their unit on Greek mythology; with a guest performer, the Chariot of the Sun, who reenacted some of the famous myths. A special thanks to the PTAC for funding the event! English Language Arts has kicked off our unit on the novel, The Giver, and we will soon go out in the world to do experiential, personal research on modern-day heroes. U.S. History finished the civics unit with a mock election that was a huge success. U.S. History has begun studying industrialization, with an inventor/invention project due before the winter break. Science is continuing the genetics unit, looking at family inheritance patterns. Math has finished STAR testing, and algebra mid-year exams will be taking place in late January. | | P.R.O.M.I.S.E Girls Go To a Cookie Drive
By: Julianna Service – Grade 7 | | | To all the soldiers that fight for our country. Thank you.  Lori Gates is the director of a Cookie Drive for people fighting in the war. The P.R.O.M.I.S.E. girls recently had the privilege of going to this cookie drive and I had the opportunity to gain some information about the drive from Mrs. Gates (pictured here). The drive is called the Enfield Hooah. It is actually called Huah standing for heard, understood, and acknowledged, but because people couldn't pronounce it correctly they changed it to the phonetic spelling. The Enfield Hooah sends boxes upon boxes of cookies and cards to roughly 64 military personnel. This drive actually beat last year’s record of 1,003 lbs. of cookies with a received amount of 1,077 lbs. of cookies. The drive is only on one day in the month of November and it is from 11:00-3:00. It takes about 10 days for the cookies to get to the soldiers and sometimes the soldiers send emails back to Lori. There are around 20 people who volunteer year-round for Enfield Hooah and all the other volunteers are either donating to people they know or donating just to donate as the P.R.O.M.I.S.E. girls did this year.
 The P.R.O.M.I.S.E Girls spent time on Monday, November 16th after school from 2:30-3:45 baking cookies for the drive. They baked different kinds of cookies and put them in little plastic baggies. They stored them in a freezer until it was time to bring them to the drive at American Legion 80 in Enfield.
 When the girls arrived at the American Legion, people were bagging cookies and needed some help to put those bags into the boxes that were getting sent out. The girls carefully put the cookies into the boxes making sure they didn’t break and making sure they divided the bags equally. After all the cookies were distributed the girls worked on making cards. Some of the ones they made said, “Happy Holidays!” while others said, “Merry Christmas!” We were running out of paper so Mrs. Myers ran out and got so festive cards and extra cookies. When she got back some of the group helped to distribute those cookies while others continued cards. Overall, many things were accomplished and now the soldiers have some cards and cookies to enjoy during the holidays since they can’t be with their families.
| | MOvember | | | Congratulations to Mr. Drago for raising the most money with the best mustache! The student council raised $54 overall to support men’s health. Everyone benefited from getting to see the interesting facial hair of the staff.
