A Message from the Principal

Spring may finally be here, although as I write this my phone just alerted me of another band of snow moving through the area overnight.  Enough is enough!!  It has been a busy last few weeks and the school seems to have an endless supply of energy.  The newsletter will highlight much of what they have accomplished, whether in an academic area, sports arena, or on the stage.  The school just completed another outstanding sports season with a state championship in hockey.  Congrats to the team for representing the community so well!  My family and I experienced our first “musical” at Suffield High and I must say, BRAVO!  Thank you to Ms. Holland, Mrs. Hoffacker, and all of the faculty, staff, and students for a wonderful show.  No matter what area the students represent, they continue to make their mark here at Suffield High and we are proud of them all.

Congratulations to Sam Cutler, son of Kim Worthington and Edward Cutler, on being named Valedictorian for the class of 2015.  Sam plans to study physics at college and has been accepted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the University of Connecticut.  Sam has not decided where he will matriculate in the fall and is waiting to hear from Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Yale before making his final decision.

Congratulations also to Kira Bourret, daughter of Robert and Kimi Bourret, on being named Salutatorian for the class of 2015.  Kira plans to be a pre-med major and is interested in anesthesiology as a career path.  She has not decided where she will matriculate in the fall and has applied to a number of schools that include Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Virginia Tech, and the University of Connecticut.

Wildcat Card & Company

Students of Sara Fischer and Carol Sewall have begun designing and crafting their own beautiful cards. Cards will be sold in the school store for $2, with 25% of the proceeds going to the Kevin Vitale Memorial Fund. Be on the lookout and help support such a wonderful cause!

Rotary Club Student of the Month

The Suffield High School Rotary Club has chosen Alexandra Kenyon Schneider as the Student of the Month. Alexandra is an athlete, playing field hockey, lacrosse, and sailing during the summers. She is a member of the National Honors Society, World Language Honor Society, Class Council, Model United Nations, French Honors Society, and the Interact Club. Alexandra has won many awards, including awards for sports, academics, and leadership. When she is not working on her academics or participating in sports, Alexandra does volunteer work for the town library, picking up litter, raising money for juvenile diabetes, or helping the elderly. She plans on going to college to create a future in environmental or political science.

Wildcat Outreach’s “Becoming Me” Theater

The Wildcat Outreach’s “Becoming Me” Theater, run by Mrs. Radziewicz, focuses on peer and cross-age teaching. On Friday, Feb. 26, the club visited Spaulding Elementary School to perform an educational puppet shows to all 2nd graders. Club members wrote and performed the show, which included puppetry, improv, and acting. The topics included the importance of sharing, helping a friend in need, saying I'm sorry, and staying loyal to your friends. One of the 2nd grade teachers involved, Ms. Pickman wrote, “There was nothing but positive feedback from the second grade teachers – everyone loved it!

Students who participated in the program were seniors Bryan Donahue, Connor Donahue, Joe Barnes, and Kira Bourret, as well as juniors Claire Margiatto, Noelle Albert, and Priya Mehta. The club is looking forward to going back to Spaulding to perform for the 1st graders and kindergarteners!
