Suffield Public Schools maintains a continuum of services for eligible special needs children. Services include modifications and accommodations provided within the general education classroom to support children with special needs in regular education, co-teaching services within the general classrooms and related services. Related services include speech/language, occupational, and physical therapy, psychological evaluation specialized consultation, behavioral supports and school counseling and transitional services. Special educational programs with the Suffield Public Schools are designed to ensure that eligible children receive a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.

PURPOSE: To educate Suffield's Emergency Personnel on the interaction and response to an emergency situation involving children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to provide information to community members, parents and caregivers on the wandering/elopement risk for children with ASD and strategies to maintain their safety.

April 28th is Light Suffield Up Blue Day. On April 28th students, teachers and staff are encouraged to wear blue shirts! Project Keep Me Safe t-shirts are encouraged. 100% of the proceeds will go toward Project Keep Me Safe activities and safety initiatives.

Foundation for Exceptional Children of Suffield (FECS) Presents:

"Autism-Related Wandering: Keeping Our Kids Safe" on April 26, 2017, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center.

"Light Suffield Up Blue!" on April 28, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. on the Suffield Town Green. Free ice cream social, lighting of blue luminaries, meet and greet with first responders!

PRESENTER: Jo Ann Freiberg, Ph.D., CT State Department of Education

Ms. Freiberg is an education consultant for school climate, bullying, and character education. She assists schools and youth-serving organizations to create safe and respectful learning and social environments in which children can thrive.
