Welcome to the Suffield Public Schools website. Our website is designed to provide the most current information about our schools and to improve our communication to parents, students, staff and the community. Check our site often as we add and update information to ensure effective communication regarding our schools and programs.
The teachers, support staff and administrators of the Suffield Public Schools are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and challenging educational environment; one in which each child feels connected. Our district has four strategic goals which we address on an ongoing basis. These goals include: improving communication, maintaining class sizes (student /teacher ratios) that are conducive to educational excellence, utilizing technology as a tool for facilitating learning and communication, and balancing an accountability driven testing culture with our local educational values and beliefs. Our budgets are strategic, responsive and supportive of those district goals.
We are constantly fine tuning our programs and offerings in order to ensure that each child graduates with the skills necessary for the 21st century global society. Our students are encouraged to be active learners and collaborators, critical thinkers and effective communicators.
Suffield is a wonderful town. Connecticut Magazine ranked it 7 out of 23 (overall) in towns of similar size (10,000-15,000) and 4 out of 23 in Education (connecticutmag.com, 11/20/2009). Suffield’s rolling farmlands and picturesque Main Street give it a charming, small town feel. There is a wonderful sense of community and a strong commitment to education. Community businesses, SFES (Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools) and countless volunteers all work tirelessly to help support our public education and make it the best. Our schools in turn give back to the community. Whether collecting toys for needy children, raising funds for local charities, or inviting senior citizens in for performances our students and staff stand ready to do their part.
We take great pride in our schools and our students. Our students are thriving. They have gained much recognition throughout the state for their accomplishments and are encouraged to give back to the community. I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas for our continual improvement. Our children deserve the best opportunities, and we, at the Suffield Public Schools, will accept nothing less.
Sincerely,
Mary Greenlaw-Dixon, Ed.D
Interim Superintendent of Schools
